4 Health & safety in schools

Objectives

• Gain an understanding of the health and safety responsibilities of employers and staff.
• Complete a health and safety assessment.
• Consider risks to health both in school and during off-site activities.

Time

One 1.5 hour session

Preparation

For the final exercise in this session, trainees will be considering a checklist of things that should be considered when organising a school trip. Distributing copies of the school’s guidelines for organising trips will help to inform that discussion.
