Managing the process

The school’s role is to support and encourage its staff in creating their CPD portfolios. They should encourage continued use of them, and then provide focused feedback based on their content. If the school promotes the use of CPD portfolios enthusiastically, support staff will feel engaged and willing to contribute.


This section provides guidance on how to help support staff build their portfolio, and covers the administrative issues involved. The process involves:

Support staff find out what a CPD portfolio is and what they need to do, perhaps through an introductory session run by the school.

Support staff collect and record the information that will be the core of their CPD portfolios.

Support staff take time to think over what they have written and collected.

Support staff discuss the issues raised with their line manager.

Progress is reviewed regularly.
