Development opportunities for all support staff

23 October 2008

To meet increased demand for the effective development of school support staff, NAPTA has launched the National Support Staff Resource Bank as a standalone, online subscription service providing access to NAPTA’s Development Resources.

Many schools have an annual performance review programme in place for their support staff, but find it difficult to provide appropriate training and resource material to help develop this diverse group of practitioners. Now all local authorities can provide their schools with this material using their own, branded version of the National Support Staff Resource Bank. Substantial subsidies are available and hosting solutions minimise the effort required by the authority.

The National Support Staff Resource Bank gives schools access to development and training material that helps staff to evolve as professionals, and leadership teams to deliver whole-school improvement. Resources range from materials to aid individuals in developing their team leadership skills to institutional guidance on the roles of support staff within schools. Classroom materials are also included to support teaching in a variety of subjects, plus guidance on marking and special educational needs.

This year, the resources have been updated, expanded and released online. Consequently, subscribers can now benefit from being able to access all the material anywhere, any time, as well as enjoying additional material such as QGP’s legal guide The Support Staff Little Pocket Book 2008, new team leadership resources and links to relevant video resources from Teachers TV.

“Schools everywhere now recognise the pivotal role that their support staff play in helping their school to reach its aims. Now, with the National Support Staff Resource Bank available online, every school will be able to follow up their annual professional reviews with relevant development material to fit the needs of each of their support staff.”
Roger Smith, Chairman, NAPTA

Bought separately, all the resources in the National Support Staff Resource Bank would cost over £2500 per school. However, annual subscriptions now start at only £125+VAT for an institution, with even lower prices for local authority orders.

NOTES:

NAPTA, the UK’s leading support staff organisation, is a membership organisation that works with schools, local authorities and other education settings to realise the potential of support staff, whatever their role.

The Development Resources are part of NAPTA’s Workforce Development Programme. NAPTA is able to offer major subsidies because of its ever-increasing scale of operation - over 120,000 support staff in more than 6000 schools across well in excess of 100 authorities have taken part in the Workforce Development Programme since it launched in 2004.
